CATAS Foreign Aid Training Facilitates China-Solomon Islands Subnational Relations Development

Author:Division of International Cooperation From:CATAS Date:2025-07-28 Hits:
On May 14, a group of Solomon Islands trainees from the "Belt and Road" Training Course on Tropical Fruit Production and Processing Technology, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), held discussions on establishing a sister-province relationship between Renbel Province (of the Solomon Islands) and Hainan Province, and signed a letter of intent. H.E. John Moffat Fugui, Solomon Islands Ambassador to China; Puia, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of Renbel Province; Shang Jing, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province; and Li Jihua, Vice President of CATAS, attended the above activities.

In his speech, Director Puia stated that as a trainee of the training course, he had conducted a 20-day study at CATAS, during which he gained an in-depth understanding of China's agricultural development experience and models, especially those of Hainan. Renbel Province and Hainan Province share similar climates and complementary resources, with great potential for cooperation. He expressed the expectation that more projects in such fields as tropical agriculture and marine economy will be implemented between the two sides in the future, and that what he has learned from the training will be transformed into practical results.

On behalf of the Solomon Islands government, Ambassador Fugui reaffirmed its firm support for the one-China principle and thanked the Chinese government at all levels for their long-term support. Having visited CATAS three times, he noted that CATAS is a world leader in tropical agricultural scientific research and can provide technical support for agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

As an important host of foreign aid training programs, CATAS has long been committed to promoting international cooperation in agricultural science and technology and talent exchange. Over the years, through systematic foreign aid training programs, it has facilitated the implementation and effectiveness of a number of agricultural cooperation achievements. The successful signing of the cooperation letter of intent between Hainan Province and Renbel Province of the Solomon Islands is another achievement of CATAS' foreign aid training. It fully demonstrates CATAS' pragmatic responsibility in promoting international agricultural cooperation, developing friendly local city-to-city relations, and advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
